All learning starts with our sense of who we are. The study of the body in movement is the easiest path into that kind of understanding.
What does that mean?
It means that if you're studying the piano, the way you move at the instrument, the fears that come up, the desires to show off, to hurry, you're studying yourself! Whatever you do at the piano, you do everywhere. If you can conquer it at the piano, you've taken your first step towards understanding your whole self.
My presentations approach very different areas: Early learning, writing, self-promotion, mathematics. All from the same deep place: Who are we and what do we desire? Can we use what we know to get to what we want to learn?
That's why I encourage classical musicians to learn about jazz, writers to learn about public speaking, and math-phobes to learn about math. At some level, the thing that scares you is offering you the thing you want.
