So many times I find things change right as you've given up. You always have to hold on just one more day.
I had given up on being a real composer. Not that I would have stopped composing, but the idea that I'd actually write anything of any consequence for anyone was just about faded from my mind.
Enter Access Contemporary Music, a group in Chicago with which I am affiliated. Last week they commissioned me to create a score for a 7 minute silent movie. I was one of a small number of composers chosen to take on this project.
And so I have officially received my first commission as a composer! I have completed a preliminary score and have sent it into the filmmakers to get their feedback. If all goes well, we can move forward to prepare for a live performance in Chicago in the Spring!
After over 20 years of looking for an opportunity, it is such a thrill to finally have one. Any good news from you lately?
Love,
Adam
